Cubic yards to tons
Multiply cubic yards by the material's weight per cubic yard. At 1.4 tons per cubic yard, 3 cubic yards of crushed stone weigh 4.2 tons. The weight per yard changes with the material and how wet it is, so use your supplier's figure when you have it.

The formulas
tons = cubic yards × tons per cubic yard
cubic yards = tons ÷ tons per cubic yard
tonnes = cubic metres × tonnes per cubic metre
1 US ton per cubic yard = 1.187 tonnes per cubic metre
cubic yards = tons ÷ tons per cubic yard
tonnes = cubic metres × tonnes per cubic metre
1 US ton per cubic yard = 1.187 tonnes per cubic metre
A US ton is 2,000 lbs (907.2 kg). A metric tonne is 1,000 kg. A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet or 0.7646 cubic metres.
