Gravel calculator
Enter the area and depth to get cubic yards, tons and bags. The example is a 20 × 10 ft path at 3 inches deep: about 1.85 cubic yards, or 2.6 tons of crushed stone.

How the calculator works
Length × width × depth gives the volume. Divide cubic feet by 27 for cubic yards, then multiply by the weight per cubic yard to get tons.

How deep should gravel be?
| Use | Typical depth |
|---|---|
| Decorative top layer over landscape fabric | 2–3 in |
| Garden or walking path | 3–4 in |
| Driveway, top layer over a compacted base | 4–6 in |
These are common rules of thumb. A driveway on soft ground needs a deeper compacted base; check local guidance or a contractor.
Bags vs bulk
| Bag size | Bags per cubic yard |
|---|---|
| 0.5 cu ft | 54 |
| 0.75 cu ft | 36 |
| 1 cu ft | 27 |
A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet, so bag counts follow directly from bag volume. For more than about a cubic yard, bulk delivery is usually cheaper.
