Tile calculator
Enter the area to tile, the tile size and the grout joint. A 10 × 12 ft floor with 12 × 12 in tiles and 1/8 in grout lines takes about 118 tiles, or 130 with 10% extra.

How the calculator works
–
Each tile covers its own size plus one grout joint in each direction. Dividing the area by that footprint gives the number of tiles. Cut tiles at the edges are why you add extra.
How much extra to buy
- Straight layout, simple room: around 10% is the usual allowance.
- Diagonal or herringbone layouts, many corners: more cuts, so allow more, often 15% or above.
- Large-format tiles: each broken or miscut tile is a bigger share of the job.
Buy all boxes from the same production lot so the color matches, and keep a few spare tiles for future repairs.
