How the calculator works

Pavers are laid tight with narrow sand-filled joints, so the count uses the paver's own size. The base and sand volumes are area × depth, the same as the gravel calculator.
Base and sand depths
The base depth depends on the soil, the climate and what will drive or walk on the paving, so take it from the installation guide of the paver brand you buy or from your supplier. The defaults here (4 in of base, 1 in of sand) are example values for a patio, not a specification. Driveways need a deeper base.
Gravel base is usually ordered by weight: convert the cubic yards with cubic yards to tons.
